On Monday, August 18, 2025, the Douglas Mayor’s Youth Council conducted the first meeting of the 2025-2026 term. Junior Mayor Zipporiah Wilcox welcomed everyone to the new session and announced the goals for the upcoming term. Tracy Davis from Light House Church delivered the invocation to begin the meeting, and Braylon White was recognized as the outstanding community youth.
Braylon White, a 10th grader at Coffee High School, was recognized for his courage and inspiration in the face of adversity. Braylon is the son of Shay Edwards and Anthony White. Diagnosed with a serious heart condition at a young age, Braylon received a heart transplant at the age of 14. Since then, he has faced new health challenges but has continued to inspire those around him. His grandmother, Faye Bowman, accepted the award on his behalf. Several days after the meeting, Braylon passed away on Friday, August 22, 2025. The Mayor’s Youth Council and the City of Douglas extend their deepest condolences to his family and friends.
Ms. Dinitra Williams, the DMYC Youth Coordinator, provided an update on upcoming events from the Keep Douglas Beautiful Committee. Destiny Henderson (Social Media), Xzaria Jordan (Recruitment), Jaleigha Williams (Community Service), and Dominic Mimbang (Finance) each shared updates from their respective subcommittees. Following the committee updates, Mayor Tony Paulk addressed the council, discussing leadership and the responsibilities each leader should undertake to ensure effective guidance.
