Margaret Merritt, age 85 of Douglas, Ga, passed away peacefully at vista park following an extended illness. She was born on September 11th, 1940 to the late Ivey Fussell and Eula Harper Fussell.

She is survived by three daughters, Connie M. (Jeffery Lewis) Smith of Brunswick GA, Karen M. (Eddie Mac) Dix of Ocilla GA and Donna L. (Stanley) Hurley of Collins GA; step-daughter, Karen Batten of Douglas GA; grandchildren, Carly A.(Spencer) McGovern of Reidsville GA, Derrick Smith of Douglas GA, Bridget N. (Jason) Wilkes of Brunswick GA, Kayla M. Thornton of Atlanta GA, Jennifer Lea Smith of Atlanta GA, and Jeremy D. Smith of Douglas GA; great-grandchildren, Kinslee Wilkes, Jayce Smith, Kalissa Thornton, Kaliya Thornton, Jaida Lott, Laik Lott and Mack Lott; and one niece, Terri Fussell.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ivey Fussell and Eula Harper Fussell; and three husbands, Carl Mitchell Merritt, Jimmy McDonald, and Virgil Batten.

The Family will receive friends Wednesday, October 1st, 2025 at Sims Funeral Home in Douglas, Ga from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

Funeral services will be Wednesday October 1st, 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Chapel of Sims Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Smith Officiating. Interment will follow at Griffin Cemetery in Ambrose GA.

Active pallbearers will include Ronnie Harper, Wade Purvis, Gree Harper, Tommy Glenn Purvis, and Spencer McGovern.

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
