The CCA Lady Patriots did something yesterday that I’ve never seen before. It’s not just that they won – they’ve done that a lot over the last two years – but it’s the manner in which they won. The Lady Patriots defeated the First Preparatory Christian Academy Highlanders by a combined score of 40-0 in a doubleheader on Senior Night in Douglas Tuesday. The game one score was 12-0 while game two was 28-0.

The two games lasted seven innings total – four in game one and three in game two. CCA scored in every inning, with the lowest run total (one) coming in the first inning of game one. The highest run total was 15, which came in the first inning of game two.

Game one followed a script similar to other CCA games this year – steady, consistent scoring; solid defense; and reliable pitching. The Lady Patriots scored one in the first, three in the second, six in the third, and two in the fourth.

Brilynn Waldron had two hits, Gracie Giddens drove in four, and Klair Mercer scored three times. Giddens surrendered just one hit and struck out four.

Game two, however, is where the real fireworks began. The runs came early and they didn’t stop. CCA scored 15 in the first, nine in the second, and four in the third. They amassed 22 hits, five home runs, a double, and no errors. Everyone in the lineup reached base and scored at least one run. Emma Gourley hit two inside the park home runs while Brilynn Waldron hit one inside the park home run.

Mattie Lewis’s home runs, both to center, give her nine on the season – tops GIAA Class A, GIAA Class A and AA District 6, seventh in the state, and 33rd in the nation.

Cadence Cravey had four hits while Abrah Harris and Lily Waldron had three. Gourley and Lewis drove in five while Cravey and Lily Waldron scored four runs. Peighton Harper gave up one hit and struck out four.

The two wins put CCA at 21-4 on the season. The Lady Patriots have one more game left, a 5 p.m. showdown with Southwest Georgia Academy tomorrow in Damascus.
