According to a report from the Douglas Police Department, a suspect was arrested after he allegedly pointed a gun at a woman who refused to have sex with him for $100 then attempted to hide a pistol holster under a shelf at the Circle K on the north end of town.
The report says that on October 4, 2025, an officer responded to Georgian Woods Apartments after getting a report of a subject with a weapon. The suspect, identified as Kentaryea Deryion Brooks, was eventually located at the nearby Circle K. The responding officer spoke with the victim who said that earlier in the day, Brooks had pointed a gun at her. She said that he had approached her and offered her $100 for sex but she refused. The victim said that Brooks left and came back later, making the same proposition, the report says.
After the victim said no the second time, Brooks allegedly followed her to her apartment and asked to speak with her again. She said no once more, the report states, and walked into her apartment. As she entered the apartment, the report says she heard the sound of a round being chambered in a handgun. She turned around and saw Brooks at the bottom of the stairs, pointing a gun in her direction, the report says. The report adds that at the time, Brooks was holding her baby. Another witness reported seeing Brooks pointing a gun at the victim.
The other witness said she was calling the police and Brooks fled to the Circle K, according to the report. An officer found Brooks at the store. He denied asking the victim for sex and said he was trying to rent a room from her, the report says. He also denied having a gun or pointing a gun at her.
Officers were searching around the store and found a black nylon holster under a shelf. The holster had a price tag of $199 and was sold with a SCCY handgun, the report says. Brooks said he used the holster to hold his cell phone; however, his phone did not fit inside the holster. Video footage from inside the store showed Brooks sliding the holster under the shelf. Officers were unable to find a gun in the store or in the surrounding area.
Following the investigation, Brooks was charged with pointing a pistol or gun at another person and booked into the Coffee County Jail.
