Daniel William Gaskin (Brains), age 88, of Surfside SC, passed away on October 22nd, 2025 at his home surrounded by family. He was born on August 28th, 1937 in Douglas, GA.
Daniel had a passion for convertible cars, The GA Bulldawgs and Dairy Queen. He was known and loved for his quick wit, teasing sense of humor and keeping everyone on their toes. He spent a summer training with the Cincinnati Reds, spent 2 years in the Air National Guard and had a lifelong career in entrepreneurship, sales, traveling and construction.
He is survived by his loving sister, Laquita Corbin. His beloved children, 2 sons and 2 daughters, Russell (Dana) Lewis, Roy (Karen) Lewis, Amy (T.J.) Finocchiar and Lori (Jim Markel) Miller.
Granddaddy Dan “DD” is survived by 15 grandchildren, Ambrose (Samantha) Rico-Harrison, Josh (Megan) Lewis, Meghann (Chad) Brooks, Claire (Colton) Henning, Eric Lewis, Casey (Laura) Tanner, Cory Tanner, Gina (Miguel) Cabb, Kevin (Stephanie) Tanner, Lindsey Winner, Sarah Miller, David Miller, Gracie Markel, Bryan Miller and Matthew Markel.
And his 16 great grandchildren, Owen Rico-Harrison, CJ, Macelynn & Tatum Brooks, Kayden, Baxter, RJ and Anna, Baby Henning, Jacob, Hayden and Conner Tanner, Andy Stigall, Sophia Cab, Lily and Daisy Tanner. And 1 great grandchild, Weston Finocchiar.
He is proceeded in death by his mother and father, Marvin and Delsa Gaskin, his two sisters, June Adams and Annelle Burkett, his grandson Daniel Finnocchiaro and great grandson Michael Finocchiar.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 1st at Sims Funeral Home Douglas, Georgia from 12-2pm with the service following. The funeral Internment will be at City Cemetery, N Gaskin Ave.
