In celebration of America Recycles Day, citizens of Douglas are invited to participate in a local recycling event hosted by the Keep Douglas Beautiful Board and GFL Environmental on Saturday, November 15, 2025, from 8:30 AM to 11:45 AM (must be in line prior to 11:30 AM) at 1011 Shirley Avenue. This event aims to raise awareness about recycling and proper recycling practices.
The event will feature a convenient drop-off for accepted recyclable materials, including:
- Mixed plastics (no plastic bags)
- Cardboard (flattened)
- Magazines, brochures, and catalogs
- Glass bottles and jars
- Plastic bottles and jugs (no hazardous waste products)
- Paperback and phone books
- Newspapers, inserts, and office paper
- Aluminum and steel cans
“This event is a great opportunity for residents to learn more about what can and cannot be recycled,” said Destiny Paulk, KDB Executive Director. “By following simple guidelines, we can all make a big impact on reducing waste and protecting our environment.”
Participants are reminded to prepare recyclables properly by ensuring all items are empty, dry, and clean, and to place them loose in the cart—never in plastic bags. Items not accepted at the event include plastic bags, foam packaging, yard waste, electronics, batteries, food waste, medical waste, hazardous materials, and clothing or shoes.
