On Thursday, November 13, 2025, officials with the City of Douglas, the Douglas Police Department, and the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department met with several local apartment property managers to discuss strategies for enhancing safety and reducing criminal activity in and around apartment complexes within the city limits. The meeting served as a forum to gather input from property managers as the City works to develop a new ordinance focused on crime prevention in multi-family housing areas.
Property managers were encouraged to partner with law enforcement by implementing proactive safety measures. Among the suggestions discussed were the installation of security camera systems, license plate readers, and improved lighting in areas identified as high-risk for criminal activity.
“I need you to help me make our city safe,” said Mayor Tony Paulk. “The ongoing cooperation between all of you and public safety agencies is crucial to creating safer living environments for all residents.”
The next meeting with apartment managers is scheduled to take place on December 3, 2025, at 2 p.m., at City Hall (302 S. Madison Avenue).
