A 49-year-old from Tifton who had been banned from all Walmart stores in the United States and its territories was arrested after he was caught allegedly shoplifting from the Douglas Walmart.
An incident report from the Douglas Police Department states that on November 23, 2025, at 2:45 p.m., an officer responded to a shoplifting call at Walmart. According to the report, Donald Eric Giles, 49, of Tifton, had been caught returning merchandise that he had not brought into the store. Video footage showed Giles selecting items from the store then going to the customer service/returns desk to return them, the report says. Walmart personnel also noticed that Giles had allegedly done the same thing on November 21, 2025.
During the investigation, Walmart employees discovered that Giles had been flagged as a repeat shoplifter in multiple stores in Georgia and had been banned from entering any Walmart store anywhere in the country as well as stores in any U.S. territory. The officer also discovered a small amount of suspected methamphetamine in a container in Giles’s pocket.
Giles was arrested and charged with two counts of criminal trespass, one count of theft by shoplifting, and possession of methamphetamine. Giles remains in the Coffee County Jail.
