On December 5, the 2025-2026 Coffee FLEX (Foundational Leadership & Entrepreneurship Experience) participants spent the day diving into real-world skills and exploring the power of small business. South Georgia State College hosted the group on the Douglas campus. Dr. Greg Tanner, Interim President, encouraged members to chase their dreams and shared all the academic options SGSC can offer in the field of business.
After a fun ice breaker, the group heard “Why Small Business Matters” from Mayor Tony Paulk, who himself is an entrepreneur.
Mr. Michel Fleming of Wiregrass Georgia Technical College and Georgia AIM then led an informative session to help students understand how branding and marketing can shape business success.
Next, students learned accounting and finance basics to help keep a business on the right track from Mr. Chris Jones, Business Consultant with the UGA Small Business Development Center office in Valdosta.
Afterwards, Douglas-Coffee County Chamber staff shared its mission, program and event offerings and the variety of ways its organization supports small businesses.
After lunch, students were treated to a tour of Norris Shoes and Ada Fashions to hear and see how to dress for success in a variety of fields.
Members would like to offer a huge thank-you to the club’s partners, presenters, and local businesses for investing in their futures.
