Representatives from local government, nonprofits, businesses, and community groups participated in a collaborative workshop on December 11, 2025, to develop a comprehensive and unified Disaster Recovery Plan for Coffee County and the cities of Ambrose, Broxton, Douglas, and Nicholls. The workshop was hosted on the campus of South Georgia State College.
The goal is to have a plan that ensures a coordinated and effective response for future emergencies. The event was hosted by FEMA and private firms Cadmus–Jacobs.
“It’s important to bring together stakeholders, representing the whole community, to focus on shared responsibilities and integrated strategies for preparedness, response, and recovery,” says Steve Carver, Coffee County Emergency Management Director.
Participants established crucial goals, including enhanced communications, housing, infrastructure, and behavioral and mental health. Discussion also included conversations on streamlined resources, assistance for vulnerable populations, and rapid restoration of essential services post-disaster.
“A disaster doesn’t discriminate, and neither should our response,” said Carver. “By bringing all vital community sectors to the table, we’re building a plan that leverages everyone’s strengths, ensuring no one is left behind when crisis strikes.”
Cadmus–Jacobs is scheduled to have a draft of the plan by January 2026 and the final plan in February 2027.
