A 46-year-old Douglas woman was arrested and charged with battery (family violence) after she allegedly hit a man in the head with a candle during an argument over missing money.
According to a report from the sheriff’s office, on December 1, 2025, at around 1:30 p.m., a deputy responded to a domestic call on Quincey Batten Loop. The complainant dialed 911, screamed the address into the phone but didn’t give any further information. The deputy responded and figured out which lot the call came from due to hearing more screaming from that location.
The officer spoke with Angie Johnson, 46, who said that a male in the home had taken some money out of her purse. She had $200 in the purse but $180 was missing, the report says. The male stated that he had seen Johnson take some money out of her purse and put it on the air conditioner in a room but he didn’t know what happened to it after that. The report says that when the male told Johnson he didn’t know what happened to the money, she began hitting him with her hands and her phone.
Johnson stated that the male put his hands on her neck so she hit him in the head with a candle, according to the report. The officer could not see any marks on her neck. The male had a wound on his head that was bleeding.
The report states that the officer determined Johnson to be the primary aggressor. She was arrested and transported to the Coffee County Jail. Johnson was charged with battery (family violence) and booked into the jail. She was later released on a $1,000 property bond.
