By Representative James Burchett (176th District)
While many refer to us as a part time legislature, the work of the Georgia General Assembly continues year ‘round.
Just a short time ago, I represented you as a member of our Committee on Insurance Rates at a hearing in Macon. While we took a first step in reining in costs with the passage of lawsuit reform legislation last session, our next step is to ensure that those savings reach you and Georgians around the state.
Like you, I’ve seen significant increases in the insurance premiums I pay to protect my family – and I’ll continue to work to ensure that you’re protected both from injury, and from unaffordable rate increases.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns about legislation to address insurance rates or the workings of our state government, you can reach me at james.burchett@house.ga.gov.
Making Our Communities Proud
As our athletic teams represent our communities and make us proud, I congratulate the young men of the Lowndes County, Ware County, and Valdosta football teams for their playoff runs this season.
These young men make our communities proud – and I look forward to continuing to follow their efforts on the field in the future.
Celebrating Friends and Family
As we gather with family and friends across South Georgia this holiday season, I hope you’ll join the Burchett family in taking a moment to count our community’s many blessings.
It’s been a tough year. We’ve certainly seen our share of struggles, with many of us dealing with the daunting cleanup and recovery from Hurricane Helene just a year ago.
As a result of Helene and other impacts, some of our biggest industries – including agriculture and forestry – have faced challenges.
But the resilience and strength our community has shown have been nothing short of inspiring.
I’ve been proud to be able to go to work for you in Atlanta. By leveling the playing field, I know that our strength will come through, allowing Georgia – and South Georgia in particular – to continue to be the best place in the country to live, work, and raise a family.
This holiday season, I hope we all focused on faith, family, and community. We’ve overcome many challenges over the past year – but I believe our best days are still ahead of us.
From my family to yours, God bless you, and God bless the great state of Georgia.
