Richard Blake Jewell, 31, of Douglas, was arrested and charged with theft by taking after he allegedly took 18 wheels (without tires) from a local wrecker service, according to a report from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office. The report also states that Jewell took the wheels with the intent to sell them.
Officers from the Broxton Police Department and the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office met with the complainant when the alleged theft was reported. After determining that the incident happened in the county and not in Broxton, deputies handled the investigation. Officers met with Jewell, who had the 18 wheels in his truck. They returned to the scene of the theft and Jewell gave the wheels back to the business, according to the report. The owners wanted to press charges and Jewell was arrested and charged with theft by taking.
Jewell was booked into the Coffee County Jail and later released. The wheels were valued at $450.
