A Douglas woman was arrested on aggravated assault charges after she allegedly tried to run over another woman as a result of a workplace dispute. A second woman was arrested and charged with DUI in connection with the incident.
According to a report from the sheriff’s office, on March 25, 2026, at around 11 p.m., officers responded to a Tyson Road address in connection with a suspicious vehicle. Another call came in a few minutes later from the same general area stating that a person identified as Brittany Lomax, 34, of Douglas, had attempted to run over the complainant with a gold Nissan Altima.
When officers arrived, they spoke to the complainant, who stated that two days before, she and Lomax had an issue at work that resulted in both of them getting suspended. According to the report, Lomax began calling the complainant earlier in the day on March 25 and threatening her.
According to the report, Lomax showed up at the residence in the Altima and attempted to run over the complainant multiple times. The complainant responded by throwing a brick or a rock at the Altima. Witnesses stated that they saw Lomax attempt to run over the complainant, according to the report.
Officers issued an alert for the Altima. A short time later, a deputy spotted the car on Highway 221 near Ryanwood Apartments and conducted a traffic stop. Lomax was in the vehicle; however, Aaliyah Barnes, 27, of Douglas, was driving, according to the report.
During the stop, Lomax stated that she had been suspended from work and wasn’t getting paid. She was upset with the complainant so she went to the Tyson Road address. According to the report, she denied trying to run over the complainant. Lomax stated that accelerated toward the complainant to get her away from her car. Officers also found a loaded Browning .25 ACP in Lomax’s pants.
The report also says that Lomax picked up Barnes after the incident happened and she had no involvement with what happened on Tyson Road. However, officers suspected Barnes of being intoxicated. A trooper from the Georgia State Patrol arrived and arrested Barnes. She was charged with DUI and transported to the Coffee County Jail. Deputies arrested Lomax and charged her with aggravated assault. She was also taken to the Coffee County Jail. Both have been released.
