A 40-year-old was arrested earlier this month after a deputy found him sleeping on the side of a busy highway.
According to a report from the sheriff’s office, just after midnight on March 20, 2026, a deputy responded to the area around the Douglas-Broxton Highway and Currin Road in reference to a man sleeping beside the road. The officer found him sleeping just off the road beside the southbound lane. The report says that the individual, identified as Damion Wright, 40, could not keep his balance and slurred his words.
When questioned, Wright said he was trying to get to the next town over though he did not specify which town it was. The report says that the officer believed that Wright was a danger to himself and drivers on the roadway. As such, he was transported to the Coffee County Jail on pedestrian under the influence charges. He remains incarcerated.
