Getting lost can come with a price. In this particular case, that price was a trip to the Coffee County Jail.
According to an incident report from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, on May 6, 2026, a deputy responded to an address in the Oak Park community at 3:30 a.m. He met with John Gary Staines III, 49, of Douglas, who had been found at the intersection of Highway 221 North and Sand Street.
The report says that Staines stated he was trying to get home but he didn’t know where home was. During the discussion with the deputy, Staines stated that he had ice in his pocket, the report says. The officer recovered a glass pipe with white residue on it along with two small grocery bags that contained a white crystal-like substance.
Staines was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine. He was booked into the Coffee County and later released.
