Five Trojans scored a total of six touchdowns in Coffee’s 39-0 win over the North Oconee Titans at the Erk Russell Classic in Statesboro’s Paulson Stadium Saturday afternoon. Junior running back Demetrius Davis scored twice, once on a seven-yard run in the first quarter and again on 58-yard run near the end of the fourth quarter.

The game started an hour late due to lightning and rain, which caused both teams to play sloppily in the first half. The Trojans had opportunities but kept making costly mistakes. At half-time, Coffee held on to a slim 6-0 lead.

The second half, however, was a different story. “We didn’t make any changes at half-time. We eliminated the penalties and the mistakes. In the second half, we just didn’t make those same mistakes,” said head coach Robby Pruitt following the game.

While the Coffee defense held the Titans’ offense scoreless, the Trojans added touchdowns in all facets of the game. Midway through the third quarter, senior running back Thomas Spencer scored from three yards out. Quarterback Max Hughes rumbled in from two yards a few minutes later. Then, early in the fourth quarter, senior defensive back JcKenzie Walker intercepted a North Oconee pass and ran it in for a touchdown. Not to be outdone, senior Greg Williams took a Titans’ punt 67 yards for a score of his own. With a few minutes left on the clock, Davis scored his second touchdown of the evening.

“We did some good things tonight. I was super satisfied with our effort. But we’ve still got a long way to go,” said Coach Pruitt.

The Trojans face Savannah next Friday night in their home opener. Kick-off is scheduled for 8 p.m
