Douglas police welcomed two new officers to the force during the city commission meeting Monday night. Jeffrey Raulerson and Christopher Youngblood were sworn in to the police force by Mayor James Dennis at the meeting. Raulerson and Youngblood graduated a strenuous police training program at ABAC on September 18 and are sure to be beneficial to the City of Douglas and its citizens.

Also on Monday, commissioners discussed current terms on the airport commission for Don Brooks, Bryon Gillespie, and Wayne McKinnon, which will end September 30, 2015, and the city commissioners were presented with a request to reappoint them to their positions. Because of their experience in aviation, the airport commission decided these commissioners are valuable assets and requested they be reappointed.

As mandated, the positions were advertised and applications were accepted. Only one was turned submitted, but the city commission approved the airport commission’s recommendation to reappoint the three current commissioners to their positions.

Upcoming events for the City of Douglas include a book signing by Marsha Tucker at the Heritage Station Museum on Saturday from 11 a.m to 2 p.m.

Let’s Move Day, a day of free activities and competitions for all ages, is scheduled for October 4 from 2 to 5 p.m. The event will take place behind the Coffee County Board of Education. Help the city of Douglas fight childhood obesity while having fun.

The annual Hometown Harvest will be taking place on October 29, 4 to 7:30 p.m., near City Hall on Madison Avenue. Candy will be distributed, and there will be a costume contest.
