George Washington Carver Freshman Campus (GWCFC) had two students compete in an FFA competition held in Echols County on Jan. 26.

National Organization of FFA member Dawson Adams placed first in the Sub-Area Prepared Public Speaking CDE and will advance to compete at the Area CDE in two weeks. Dawson had to prepare and recite a 4-6 minute speech about a topic related to agriculture. He chose to speak on the nuisance weed called pigweed and how today’s cotton farmers can implement various control measures to ensure a healthy and sustainable cotton crop.

Katie Burch also represented GWCFC at the FFA competition as she recited the long standing FFA Creed that was written by E.M. Tiffany and answered questions concerning her interpretation of the creed.

Congratulations to both of these FFA members for their accomplishments in developing their leadership and public speaking skills.
