The Douglas Police Department will be conducting a women’s firearms safety and familiarization course March 12 at the Douglas Police Department. Class will begin at 8 a.m. and will conclude at approximately 5 p.m.

The course will cover legal issues including use of force and deadly force, shooting fundamentals, and live fire practice.

Depending on weather conditions, the morning hours will be spent in the classroom, and participants will travel to the gun range after lunch.

Items that you will need to bring: a safe and operable handgun and holster, one box (50 rounds) of ammunition. If you do not have a handgun, the police department does have a few to loan. You will need to provide your own ammunition in 9mm or 38 Special.

You do not have to be a resident of Douglas to attend this course. It is open to all women that are legally able to possess a firearm. If someone under the age of 18 wishes to attend, they must be accompanied by a legal female guardian.

There is a small fee of $5 to cover the cost of targets and other supplies.

Registration forms are available from the Douglas Police Department or contact
Commander Bart McCulloch at (912) 384-2222 Ext. 3616 .

Registration deadline is March 04, 2016, and the class is limited to 20 participants.
