Coffee County Sheriff Doyle Wooten released today the following information regarding drug arrests that have occurred during the month of April:

April 1 – Sheriff’s deputies stopped a vehicle on Ga. Hwy. 32 at College Avenue in Douglas. The deputies noticed what they believed to be methamphetamine in the passenger’s seat of the vehicle.  The Douglas-Coffee Drug Unit (DCDU) was called to investigate.

Subsequent to the investigation, deputies and DCDU agents seized a quantity of suspected methamphetamine and arrested Paul Edgar Harvey, age 45 , of Coffee County for possession of methamphetamine.

April 2 – DCDU responded to a traffic stop conducted by the City of Douglas Police Department on North Wheeler Ave. regarding possible possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute.  The DCDU investigated and determined that the marijuana located during the traffic stop was less than one ounce and charged 24-year-old William Menkema of Ambrose with misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

April 4 – DCDU agents were called to traffic stop conducted by sheriff’s deputies at Timber Trail in Coffee County.  During the traffic stop, deputies recovered a medication bottle with suspected methamphetamine inside.  Subsequent to the DCDU investigation, Crystal Mae Payne, age 25, of Nicholls was charged with possession of methamphetamine.

April 4 – DCDU agents investigated drug activity at 134 New Forrest Hwy. Subsequent to the investigation, 46-year-old James Nobles of Nicholls, a visitor to the location, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine.

April 5 – DCDU responded to a request by the Nicholls Police Department to investigate the possession of cocaine on Brunswick Ave. in Nicholls.  After a brief investigation by the Nicholls police chief and DCDU agents, 51-year-old Judy Pinson was arrested for possession of cocaine.

April 6 –  DCDU K-9 officers stopped a vehicle on GA. 31 at Harvey Vickers Road for a child restraint violation.  During the traffic stop, the K-9 officer detected marijuana in the vehicle and contacted DCDU agents.

Subsequent to the investigation, 31-year-old Amanda Jewell of Douglas was charged with possession of a controlled substance (Alprazolam), possession of marijuana (less than an ounce), and a child restraint violation.  The case remains under investigation due to the fact that at the time of the stop there were three children in the vehicle.

April 8 – DCDU agents responded to a request by the Nicholls Police Department regarding the possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute.  Following the joint investigation,Stephen Carlson, age 53 of Nicholls, was charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

Sheriff Wooten stated, “I would like to thank all officers involved and the continued efforts of all law enforcement agencies in Coffee County working together to improve the safety of our community by removing the drugs from our streets and neighborhoods.”
