Satilla Regional Library System welcomed Mr. Steve Hein, Director and Founder of The Center for Wildlife Education at Georgia Southern University, to the Douglas-Coffee County Public Library on Wednesday, June 15.

Mr. Hein presented a wildlife show with birds of prey, raptors, reptiles and more. The animals he included were a grey eyed screech owl, harris hawk, possum, red rat snake, eastern banded king snake, and Madagascar hissing cockroaches. He educated the children and audience about these animals while encouraging them to read about these various animals. Mr. Hein also talked about safety around reptiles and the misconceptions many have about them so people would not be afraid of them. There was audience participation, and everyone had a great time!!

The next Summer Reading Program performance will be The Jacksonville Zoo, which will be holding a zoo program on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at the Douglas/Coffee County Public Library at 11 a.m. and the Pearson Public Library at 2:30 p.m. Come and see the zoo animals!

For more information on upcoming youth programs at Satilla Regional Library System, please call Miss Julie Macomber, Children’s and Young Adult Librarian, at (912) 384-4667 ext. 222. You can also visit us online at our website, www.srlsys.org, on Facebook at facebook.com/SatillaRegionalLibrary, and on Twitter @SatillaLibrary.
