At the regularly scheduled meeting for the Magnolia Midlands Travel Association on Thursday, June 23, City of Douglas Public Information Director Georgia Henderson was elected to serve as the president for the association.  The Magnolia Midlands Travel Association is one of the nine travel regions classified by the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD).

The Magnolia Midlands Travel Association consists of 24 counties in Southeast Georgia. As the president of MMTA, Mrs. Henderson shall be responsible for presiding over all monthly meetings and shall have the duties normally conferred as parliamentarian usage of this office.  The president is also responsible for coordinating meeting sites and programs at each monthly meeting.  The president, along with the other executive committee members of the association, will be responsible for representing MMTA at various state events and conferences.

Henderson has been employed with the City of Douglas for nearly 21 years and has many years of marketing and leadership experience.

“We encourage our management staff to excel in local, regional, and state positions, as this is a great networking opportunity that places Douglas and Coffee County in seats of leadership that focus on exposing interest in and attracting people to our community,” says City Manager Terrell Jacobs.  “It is commendable that peers within Magnolia Midlands Travel Association found Henderson to be worthy to elevate to this position and we, the City of Douglas, are proud of this accomplishment by Henderson and trust that she will do well in representing Douglas and Coffee County by using her extensive background in marketing management and organizational leadership to keep steering forward the travel association.”

The purpose of the Magnolia Midlands Travel Association is to promote travel and tourism in the Southeast Georgia region by developing and engaging in tourist related programs designed to be beneficial to that region; and to work in cooperation with the Georgia Department of Economic Development toward the accomplishment of that purpose.
The organization’s liaison with GDEcD is Tourism Project Manager Lori Hennesy.
