Coffee County 4-H shotgun shooters Jordan Davis, Brice Grantham, Lance Ricketson, and Blake Tanner, along with coaches Richard Grantham and Clay Thomas, took it all at this years’ National 4-H Shotgun Match. The competition was held the week of June 27-July 1 in Grand Island, Nebraska.
The team took first place in the sporting clay competition held Monday, June 28, with Brice Grantham taking High Individual as well. The skeet competition was held on Wednesday, and the team took third place in this contest falling behind Texas and Nebraska. The trap competition was held on Thursday, and the team tied with the highest score but lost the shoot off to take second place behind Nebraska.
When the dust settled and the teams assembled on Friday morning, July 1, Coffee County 4‑H came out on top with the high team score and with Brice Grantham being the high individual in sporting clays and the high individual overall in the National 4-H Shotgun Match. In addition, Jordan Davis placed 9th, Lance Ricketson 12th, and Blake Tanner 14th overall in the competition.
Congratulations shooters and coaches (Richard Grantham and Clay Thomas) on doing a great job representing Coffee County and Georgia at this competition.
The staff of the UGA Extension Office, as well as the coaches and team members, would like to thank everyone who helped support these young men and helped make it possible for them to attend this competition. Your generous support of the 4-H program is greatly appreciated.
FINAL GOAT TAGGING DAY
We had a great turnout for the 4-H/FFA Goat Show meeting on June 23. We have approximately 20 students who are registering to participate in the State and County Goat Shows this year. That means there will be approximately 40 goats in this year’s county show.
If you are a 4-H or FFA member who plans to participate but missed the meeting, please mark your calendars for the final tagging day for goats. It will be held at the Coffee High School Animal Science Building on Tuesday, July 12, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Remember, this is the last chance to get your goats tagged for this year’s shows.
Some important show dates are: Bring on the Heat Jackpot Show in Nicholls on Saturday, August 13; Coffee County 4-H/FFA Goat Show in Nicholls on Saturday, September 24, and the Georgia State 4-H & FFA Goat Show in Perry on Thursday, October 6, through Saturday, October 8.
For more information, please contact the 4-H office at (912) 384-1402, or any of the Coffee County School System agriculture teachers at Coffee Middle, Coffee High, or George Washington Carver Freshman Campus.
If you have questions about the Coffee County Extension or 4-H program, please feel free to contact the Coffee County Extension office at (912) 384-1402. Remember, we are YOUR local connection to the University of Georgia.
