Ashton Morgan, the son of Terry and Tamara Morgan, is five years old. For these first five years, he should have been learning the basics – how to walk, talk, play, get used to going to school, making new friends, all of those things that “normal” kids do as a matter of daily routine. But Ashton isn’t normal.

For the last three years, he has been battling medulloblastoma, an all-too-common type of brain cancer in children. Instead of learning the aforementioned skills, Ashton has simply been trying to survive. To say his life up to this point has been a struggle would be a tremendous understatement. He’s scratched, clawed, and fought this most formidable of opponents at every turn.

Now, however, Ashton is going to experience something few thought possible.

One of Ashton’s greatest wishes has been to have his own baseball field. Thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Ashton has a field. Called Ashton’s Field of Dreams, the baseball field now sits in his backyard. And Saturday, people from all over the community will gather to dedicate the field and play a game to celebrate its completion. Though he has been in Atlanta receiving treatment for his cancer, Ashton will be there to enjoy the day’s festivities. “This is so crazy how it all happened. The community outreach has been incredible. I can’t answer all the texts and calls I’ve received since last Saturday. This community has truly rallied for him,” says his mother, Tamara Morgan.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation coordinated the construction of the field, but many community members donated time, materials, and finances to see the project through. This Saturday, July 23, at 4 p.m., the Morgan family would love for everyone to come out to the field for the dedication and ball game. The field is located at 228 Wildlife Circle in Nicholls.

“Ashton has had surgery to fix his port and he begins radiation treatment on Wednesday. But he’s going to be there. This has really gone off like a bomb!” says Tamara Morgan.
