The Okefenokee Heritage Center celebrated the arts over the last week with the reveal of the Judge Ben Smith Art Show winners and the premiere of the Photography Guild Traveling Exhibit.
The late Judge Ben Smith was an icon in many different ways to the people in southeast Georgia, as a judge and as an historian, but his impact on the arts is celebrated at the OHC through the contest and exhibit. Judge Smith, over his long lifetime, was an art teacher, a practicing artist, and a promoter of the arts. The art community that has developed in this region is in a large part due to his life’s passion and work.
Contest winners in painting, photography, three-dimensional, and sketch included Chris Janes, Jerry Luke, Glenda Cason, John H. Jordan, Wanda Petersen, William Hinesley, Robert Johnston, and Wayne Morgan.
Visitors can see all of the beautiful pieces on display at the Okefenokee Heritage Center 1460 Augusta Ave Waycross, GA 31503 until November 13, Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Photography Guild’s first stop with their traveling exhibit is Primesouth Bank in Waycross. These exquisite pieces will be raffled off with a QR code on display at the bank. The winner will be able to choose any piece to liven their own homes with local art. Please contact the Okefenokee Heritage Center at 285-4260 to find out more information or volunteer to host this extraordinary exhibit.
