The South Georgia State College baseball team split its four-game series with St. Johns River State over the weekend.

On Friday the Hawks hosted SJRS, winning game one 2–1 before falling in game two 6-5. Both teams were strong on the mound in the opening game, but SGSC pulled ahead with the victory. Will Lane earned the win. He tossed seven innings, giving up one run, six hits, striking out four, and walking zero. Zach Rafuse and Chase Hinson each gathered one hit for the Hawks.

Game two turned out to be a heartbreaker for the SGSC Hawks, as they lost the lead late in the game to fall behind. The game was tied at five in the top of the seventh when a batter from St. Johns hit a sacrifice fly to drive in a run.

SGSC captured the lead early in the game by scoring one in the first inning. The second inning brought in three runs thanks to a double by Chandler Rogers, a single by Steve Wells, and a single by Chase Hinson. Cameron Coffey added to the run count with an RBI. St. Johns tied the score with a big inning in the top of the fifth and the Hawks were not able to come back and score a final run in the bottom of the seventh.  Jacob Milton took the loss for SGSC. During his time on the mound, he allowed two runs, two hits, and walked none.

On Sunday, the Hawks traveled to Florida for the second double-header in the series against St. Johns. SGSC took the lead late in game one to secure the win. The game was tied at two with the Hawks up to bat in the top of the seventh. Chandler Rogers took a walk to drive in a run for the Hawks. SGSC had ten hits in the game. Cameron Coffey, KC Brown, Jake Bryan, and Chase Hinson earned two hits each. Zach Rafuse and Rogers each added one hit.

The final gam e of the series counted as a loss for the Hawks. SGSC’s pitching was strong with Zach Rafuse starting the game and finishing his time on the mound with 18 outs. Cameron Coffey, KC Brown, Kaleb Hill, and Steve Wells each contributed one hit to the game. The Hawks were sure-handed and did not commit a single error. Spencer Speer made the most plays with seven. Despite SGSC’s best efforts, St. Johns was able to score a run in the bottom of the third to hold on to the victory.
