The South Georgia State Hawks baseball team won two out of three games in a weekend series against Central Florida Community College on Douglas’s Crider Field.

The Hawks defeated Central Florida 6-2 on Friday to start the series. SGSC took the lead in the bottom of the third with a single run and then added three more in the fifth. Garrison Hurd singled, driving in two runs and Zack Williams also singled, driving in another. Central Florida only scored two runs while SGSC added two more in the seventh and eighth innings. Jake Bryan and Hurd led the Hawks in hits with two each. Chandler Rogers, Zach Rafuse, Jacob Schmidt, Chase Hinson, and Williams were credited with one hit.

Bradley Cammack earned the win for the Hawks. He went seven innings, giving up two runs, seven hits, striking out four, and walking one.

The teams split the games on Saturday. In game one, Central Florida prevailed after a back-and-forth struggle. In the end with only five hits from the Hawks to Central Florida’s thirteen, the game ended with Central Florida on top by a score of 11-6.

Garrison Hurd earned two hits while Chandler Rogers, Lincoln Hewitt, and Ty Craft each had one hit each. Game two ended in a more dramatic fashion with the Hawks claiming a 6-5 walk-off victory over Central Florida. The game was tied at five with SGSC batting in the bottom of the seventh. Steve Wells stepped up and with swing of the bat singled, driving in the winning run.

Other Hawks contributing with hits early in the game were Chase Hinson with three, KC Brown and Jake Bryan with two each, and Garrison Hurd, Chandler Rogers, and Zack Williams all adding one.
