Annie Lee Pope, age 99, of Douglas, GA passed away on Monday, March 13, 2017, at her residence following an extended illness. Mrs. Pope was born on July 30, 1917, in Pearson, GA to the late George Wesley Harrell and Florence Thigpen Harrell.
Survivors include: her daughter, Mellie Sue (Skip) Spellman of Atlanta, GA; three sons, Clifford (Shirley) Pope of Axson, GA, Jerry (Ellen) Pope of Douglas, GA, and Gregory (Jackie) Pope of Douglas, GA; sister, Laura Lewis of West Green, GA; eight grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, D.W. Pope; son, Harold Pope; two brothers, Richard Harrell and Lawrence Harrell; and two sisters, Lethia O’Berry and Sarah Bennett.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 15, 2017 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Covenant Church. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Covenant Church with Pastor Gregory Pope, Pastor William Pope, and Dean Sikes officiating. Interment will follow at Carver Baptist Church Cemetery. Sims Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
