Mr. Roe Dean Courson, age 90, passed away peacefully early Saturday morning, August 26, 2017, at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Courson, a native of the Bickley Community in Ware County, was born April 14, 1927 to the late Loyd D. Courson and the late Frances Bagley Courson. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lois Spivey Courson; a son, Robert Dean Courson; two sisters: Doris Bittaker and Mary Frances Joiner and one brother, Loyd Vernon Courson.

After he met and married the love of his life in 1944, they lived in Douglas for 30 years where they owned and operated numerous businesses in and around Coffee County. They then moved to Panacea, FL where they started new businesses and made many more memories and friends. After owning and operating Panacea Plaza, he and his wife returned to Douglas after 40 years to spend their last years with family and friends in their hometown.

Survivors included: sons: Wayne Courson and Nolan Courson both of Douglas, GA; daughter, Pam Courson of Niceville, FL; sister, Maurice Belcher of Douglas, GA; grandchildren: Deana Courson and Dax Courson both of Panacea, FL, Ronnie Courson, Amber Thrift, Shyea Courson and Ursyla Brooker all of Douglas, GA, Nolan Courson, II of Brunswick, GA and Samantha Copeland of Niceville, FL; a number of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

The funeral service was held on Monday morning, August 28, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, where Rev. Rodney Courson, Jr. and Rev. Preston Joiner officiated. The interment followed in Bethel Cemetery.

Ricketson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
