James R. ‘Bill’ Hill

Mr. James R. “Bill” Hill, age 77, of Douglas passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon, August 26, 2017, at Shady Acres Health and Rehabilitation following an extended illness. Mr. Hill was born April 25, 1940 to the late George Hill, Sr. and the late Lucy Moore Hill. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, George Hill, Jr.

Mr. Hill, a native of Douglas, was retired, but had been a manager of a housing complex for 20 years in Atlanta and then returned home to manage a housing complex in Douglas, GA. He had served his country in the United States Navy during the Veteran era.

Mr. Hill attended West Ward Church of God.

Survivors include: daughter, Darla Hill Bennett of Fitzgerald, GA; son, James Dean Hill of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren: Kevin Damon Hill of Douglas, GA, Amanda Smith Simpson of Buford, GA and Sydney Jala Bennett of Fitzgerald, GA; great grandchildren: William Holden Myers of Valdosta, GA and Justin Avery Simpson of Buford, GA; siblings: Bobby Hill, Shirley Hill Vaughn, Betty Hill Day, Marianne Hill Highsmith, Diane Hill Wooten and Tommy Hill all of Douglas, GA.; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

The funeral service was held on Monday, August 28, 2017, at 2 p. m., at West Ward Church of God, where Rev. Britt Peavy and Rev. Willie Williams officiated. The interment followed in Douglas City Cemetery.

Ricketson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
