Imagine the horror of innocently leaving your home as you prepare to head out in the morning only to discover a drunken stranger passed out in your vehicle as you open the door. This was the reality a local citizen faced early Thursday. The night in a stranger’s car may have made for a nice temporary bed but it led to a much longer stay in more permanent surroundings – those of the Coffee County Jail.
Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the area of Carver Church Road around 7:45 a.m. after receiving a report of an unknown male sitting in the victim’s vehicle located under the home’s garage. The victim was standing by the roadside when authorities arrived and motioned towards the location of the suspect, who was still inside the vehicle.
As the deputy approached, he observed the windows were fogged, indicating the suspect had been there for a considerable amount of time. The deputy opened the passenger-side door and, predictably, immediately detected an overwhelming scent of alcohol.
The offender, identified as 24-year-old Ruly Isaac-Ortiz Ramos of Douglas, was arrested at the scene for criminal trespass and transported to the Coffee County Jail.
The victim, though somewhat shaken by the incident, is doing well.
