Nate Louis’s three-pointer with 17.4 seconds left in regulation broke a 67-67 tie Saturday afternoon and gave the South Georgia State College Hawks a 70-67 win over the Albany Tech Titans.

It was the fourth consecutive win for the Hawks (15-5, 4-2) as they stay in the middle of the GCAA conference standings.

Head coach Cory Baldwin said the Hawks and Titans always play close games, and Saturday afternoon was no different. The game featured 10 ties and 14 lead changes, with seven lead changes occurring in the final five minutes. With the game tied at 67, the Hawks forced a turnover with 42.4 seconds left in regulation and called a timeout to set up the final play.

“That play was designed for Tracy (Hector) to drive to the basket and make a decision to either try to score or kick it out to Nate (Louis) or Keyshaun (Street),” said head coach Cory Baldwin. “He kicked it out to Nate, and Nate’s shot fell for us.”

Louis led all scorers with 25 points, six rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Hector was the only other SGSC player to score in double digits with 12 points. Hector grabbed six rebounds, dished out 10 assists, had one block and three steals.

The Hawks sit alone in third place in the GCAA standings behind Georgia Highlands and South Georgia Tech with ten games remaining on the schedule. The Hawks begin a two-game road trip Jan. 31 at Gordon State and East Georgia State. The team will return home Wednesday, Feb. 7 against Central Georgia Tech. Tip for the Central Georgia Tech game is set for 7 p.m.

General admission to all regular season home games is five dollars with children five and under admitted free.
