The 19th annual Coffee Regional Medical Center Heart 2 Heart 5K Run held Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018, was a huge success with 177 participants.  Runners and walkers lined up in the Medical Center parking lot to compete for trophies, raffle prizes and good health.  The 5K (3.1 miles) race was part of the 2018 Georgia Grand Prix Series.  In addition to the 5K event, we also had a 10K run, three-mile walk and a one mile Youth Fun Run.  All 10K and One Milers crossing the finish line received a commemorative medal.  It was truly exciting to see so many people participating in all four events.

Overall winners submitting the fastest times in the 5K run were:  Overall Male, Cameron Watson (time 17:52), Second Overall Male, Dawson Bussey (time 19:28), Third Overall Male, Robert Beecher (time 21:02), Overall Female, Abbey Arnett (time 21:07), Second Overall Female Liz Graves (23:18), and Third Overall Female, Maddie Harper (time 25:49).   First, second, and third place medals were given in each five-year age division for the 5K event.

Overall winners submitting the fastest times for the 10K run were: Overall Male, Caleb Watson (time 36:35), Second Overall Male, Jacory Bazell (time 43:25), Third Overall Male, Vincent Guerrero (time 47:46), Overall Female, Tashiba Peoples (46:46), Second Overall Female, Maria Highsmith, (time 50:55), and Third Overall Female, Stephanie Deas (time 55:49).  All 10k finishers received a finishing medal.

Sponsorships and community support were overwhelming!  We want to thank our sponsors: RW Griffin, Medicine Cabinet, Beta Sigma Phi Alpha Theta Chapter, Fairfield Inn, Mary’s Restaurant, SunTrust Bank, L&M Supply Company, South GA Dentistry, Williams Institutional Foods, Beta Sigma Phi Kappa Beta Chapter, and McCrary Daniels Insurance. We also want to thank Surchero’s, Red Head Vending, Premium Waters, Williams Foods, Ellianos, Douglas National Bank, South Georgia State College, the Wellness Center, Mary’s Restaurant, Smile Doctors,  and Road ID for donations and prizes given out at the end of the event.  In addition, we want to thank those individuals who made private donations to the Cardiac Rehab Scholarship.  The race’s success was due to the community’s enthusiasm and a lot of volunteer help from Coffee Regional Medical Center staff, CHS Drama Club, CHS HOSA, CHS ROTC, SGSC Pre Med Club, the Cardiac Rehab Scholarship Committee, and the City of Douglas Police Department.

The proceeds from this year’s event benefited the CRMC Cardiac Rehab Scholarship under the CRMC Foundation.  Our scholarship helps cardiac patients here in Douglas and Coffee County.  If you are interested in supporting a great cause, please call us at 912-398-6988.
