The City of Douglas will soon be looking for a new city manager. After nearly 11 years, city manager Terrell Jacobs has announced he is resigning his position, effective June 15, 2018. Jacobs made the announcement during executive session following Monday night’s regular city commission meeting.

Jacobs has served as Douglas’s city manager since June 2007. Jacobs announced that he will be joining the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) as Municipal Operations Consultant. In this role, he will provide advice and assistance to member cities along with supporting a range of consulting service initiatives aimed at improving municipal operations and strengthening local leadership capacity.

“Douglas has been a great place for me and my family and we’ve built many relationships, both professional and personal, within this community,” says Jacobs. “It has been my privilege and honor to serve the city council and the residents of Douglas. After much prayer and consideration, I’ve decided that it’s time to pursue other business and personal life aspirations, which I feel are for the betterment of myself and family. My wife, Angie, and I will still reside in Douglas, until the time comes we decide to relocate elsewhere and will always hold Douglas dear to our hearts.”

“I am excited to announce that Terrell Jacobs will be joining the GMA staff as a Municipal Operations Consultant,” says Larry Hanson, GMA’s Executive Director. “Terrell is highly respected by his peers across the state, both for his leadership and management skills and his heart for public service. He is Vice Chairman of the Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia Board of Directors and has been serving as Secretary-Treasurer of the Georgia City-County Management Association.”

Douglas Mayor Tony Paulk states, “We appreciate the level of professionalism, knowledge, and service given by Mr. Jacobs to our local government and community. He was impactful as a city manager and his impression, on our community, will be beneficial for generations. On behalf of the entire city commission, management team, and employees of the City of Douglas, we wish blessings upon him and his family in their new endeavors. As for filling the city manager’s position, there is no timeline in place. Our commission would like time to consider our approach and possibilities. In the interim, staff and commission are very committed to ensuring that all city operations remain at the highest level, serving our customers and citizens.”
