The Coffee County Christian Home Educators (CCCHE) held a Family Night Celebration on April 26, 2018, at Carver Baptist Church. The annual event recognizes the accomplishments of homeschooled students with certificates of completion for their current school grade and by showcasing their talents. Group president, Katie Roberts, began the event by welcoming the families and guests. Philip Guthrie opened with prayer. Graduating Senior, Hunter Guthrie, was the emcee for the evening.

Retiring officers, Katie Roberts, president; Natalie Miller, treasurer; and Veronda Gillis, secretary, were presented and honored by Vice President, Morgan Corbean. New officers Morgan Corbean, president; Jessica Gosnell, vice president; Rebecca Finch, treasurer; and Whitney Fussell, secretary, were installed for the 2018-2019 school year.

One of the highlights of the celebration each year is the kindergarten graduation. Three kindergarten students, Riya Corbean, Walker Harper and Jack Jordan, wearing caps and gowns, marched in to “Pomp and Circumstance” played by fifth-grade homeschooler, Katie Gillis, on the violin. The students’ fathers gave them kindergarten diplomas and moved the tassels on their mortar boards. The three graduates then recited a poem about being ready for first grade. Katie Gillis closed the graduation by playing “Pomp and Circumstance” again as the graduates marched out.

Gideon, Gene Chesnut, presented graduating fifth graders with a New Testament Bible. The students who received Bibles were Phara Fletcher, Katie Gillis, Camron Guthrie, Bailey Harper and Mallory Jordan.

Each of the homeschool families in attendance were present and their students were given grade completion certificates. Several students performed on instruments, sang or gave readings.

Reverend Philip Corbean, the pastor of Carver Baptist Church and a homeschool father, closed the evening in prayer and blessed the meal. The CCCHE families and their guests, numbering more than 100 people, enjoyed a buffet dinner together in the church’s dining room which was beautifully decorated for the occasion.
