Stanley Richard Rockett, age 73, of Douglas, GA passed away on Sunday, June 10, 2018, at Coffee Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. Mr. Rockett was born on January 16, 1945, in Fort Wayne, Indiana the son of Irmgard Koch Rockett and the late Richard Milton Rockett.
Mr. Rockett was a graduate of Vidalia High School, North Georgia College, and Georgia Southern University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business. He was a member and Vice President of the Sigma Delta Epsilon Business fraternity. Mr. Rockett opened his State Farm Agency in Douglas in 1968. As an agent, he earned the many honors during his 50 years of service to State Farm and the community of Douglas, Georgia. He was proud to be a State Farm Agent. He was a member of Douglas First Baptist Church, the Douglas Kiwanis Club for over 50 years and served as President of the local club and as Kiwanis International President. He was the recipient of the prestigious Billy Willingham Award and instrumental in forming and co-sponsoring the Mary Hayes Center for Special Needs Children in Coffee County. Mr. Rockett served on the Coffee County Board of Education for eight years, on the Douglas Industrial Authority. He was a member and served as president of the Douglas Chamber of Commerce and was an outstanding civic leader and respected by all who knew him.
Survivors include: his wife, Susan B. Rockett of Douglas, GA; son, Timothy Richard Rockett of Douglas, GA; daughter, Christina Rockett Butler and husband John of Dublin, GA; grandchildren: Clayton Rockett, Grayson Rockett, Mark Butler, Ben Butler and Emily Butler; mother, Irmgard Koch Rockett of Douglas, GA;
Funeral services were held on Thursday, June 14, 2018, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church where Rev. Shep Johnson officiated. Interment followed at Douglas City Cemetery.
