American Legion Post 515 has been named the Second Most Outstanding Post in Georgia for the Legion year. The award signifies that Post 515 excelled in all American Legion categories.

The award was one of three that Post 515 received at the American Legion Department of Georgia Annual Convention in Duluth last weekend. Three members attended the convention: Commander Jerome Loving, Commander – Elect Alfalene Walker, and Executive Committee Member Larry McElhaney.

American Legion Post 515 also received the Post Excellence Award. This award is presented to posts that met the requirements in membership, Legion programs and specific community activities. Post 515’s membership goal is 175; the Post ended the year with 218 paid members. Additionally, they sent four young men to Boys State, presented three $500 scholarships, conducted a dignified flag disposal, held Veterans Day and Memorial Day programs, presented Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets to needy families, provided assistance to veterans, supported families in need, community service and participated in numerous other community events. Those events included the 63rd AAF – FTD Annual Reunion, Childhood Cancer Awareness Group of Coffee County’s annual fundraiser, Wreaths Across America, dedicated a sign at Ambrose New Salem Cemetery in honor of Post 515’s charter member George Shields, and more.

Commander Jerome Loving also received the Silver Brigade Award for membership recruitment. These awards show American Legion Post 515 is doing what is expected of an American Legion Post and more.
