Owen Ray Batten, age 60, of Douglas, passed away on Tuesday September 25, 2018 at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Batten was born on September 27, 1957 in Duval County, Florida, the son of the late Owen Batten and Mary Eloise Waters Batten.
He worked as a self-employed truck driver with Paulk Livestock and Nicholls Logging and his CB handle was Gambler. Mr. Batten was loved by many and will be missed by so many.
Survivors include his wife, Latrelle Batten of Douglas; two daughters, Danita Harper (Keith) of Douglas and Janet Batten of Douglas; son, Danny Batten (Erica) of Douglas; his grandkids, Caleb Wilkerson, Logan Stone (Amber), Reanna Porter (Mathew), Erika Smith (Brittany), Jordan Peach (Kendal), Gracie Whitley, and Dalton Whitley; six great grandchildren, Bentley Wilkerson, Charleigh Stone, Rylynn Bennett, Kynlee Porter, Mason Williams, and Avery Kate Smith; three brothers, Steven Randall Batten (Sherry) of Pearson, Gerald Batten of Douglas, and Ricky Batten (Peggy) of Willacoochee; nieces, Jessica Batten of Douglas, Becky Batten of West Green, Amanda Batten of West Green, Barbara McCoy of Pearson, Michelle Courson (John) of Pearson, Rhonda Etherton of Douglas, and Taylor Batten (son Tyson) of Pearson; seven step-grandchildren, Ana Harper, Amber Spires (Shaun), A.J. Harper, Aiden Harper, Ashton Harper, Aly Harper, and Andy Harper; and a host of other friends and relatives.
A memorial service was held on Saturday September 29, 2018 at 2 pm at Sims Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Floyd Batten officiating and Erica Batten giving the eulogy. Interment of his ashes will be at a later date at Mora Cemetery.
Memorialization is by cremation.
