Packing or buying school lunch is a daily debate for many families. Coffee County Schools is hoping to educate parents about healthy school choices and encourage them to take advantage of convenient and well-balanced school lunches as part of National School Lunch Week celebrations, October 15-19, 2018.

The National School Lunch Week (NSLW) theme, “School Lunch – Lots 2 Love,” reminds school communities and parents about the many nutritious choices and continued improvements to school lunch menus. Coffee County Schools prepare an average of 6,500 free of charge lunches per day for its student body. Students are served Georgia Grown fruits and vegetables, along with locally sourced milk products, in different areas of the cafeteria. Coffee High School features The Hot Spot, where hot meals like Salisbury steak or chicken pot pie are served. They also have the Trojan Grill, providing a plethora of exciting sandwich options, from hot ham and cheese, to spicy chicken, Philly cheesesteak or pork carnitas. Some other unique serving styles include the Top-N-Go nachos and Grab & Go quick meals.

“We have daily healthy options, like student choice of pizza, fresh fruits and vegetables, and different kinds of chef salads,” explains Shelia Cooper, Coffee County Schools Nutrition Training Manager. “Coffee County Schools takes into account what students like outside of school and offer a healthy alternative in our school meal options.”

Students will be encouraged to show their love for school lunch from October 15-19 with specially planned menus, decorations, cafeteria events and more.
