The South Georgia State College swim teams had their first home meet of the season on Saturday, November 3, 2018, and won both men’s and women’s side of the competition. The men totaled 713 points to Thomas University’s 329 points. Lagrange College placed third with 301 points and Point University fourth with 244 points. The Hawk’s women amassed a total of 701 points with Thomas again placing second with 338 points, Point came in third and Lagrange in fourth.

“It’s always a good measure for us to see how we do against other four year schools in an invitational style scoring format,” commented head coach CM Jenkins. “Our numbers and depth are our strength this year and enabled us to easily win both sides of the meet.”

The men were led again by sophomore Jackson Bloom, freshmen Chris Mazier and fellow freshman Wyatt Dalton.  Bloom won both the 50 free and 200 butterfly events and took second in the 100 fly. Mazier took top honors in the 100 and 200 breaststroke and Dalton also had wins in both the 100 and 200 backstroke races. Sophomore Jessilyn Graham finished first in all three of her events, winning both the 100 and 200 breaststroke and also the 50 freestyle.

The Hawks scored heavily in the relay events. The women got things off to a fast start in the first event of the day. Graham along with freshmen Kristin Farless, Cali Angove and Megan Harrell placed first in the 200 medley relay. Angove and Harrell teamed up with sophomore Kailie Kornowski and freshman Aubrey Leonards to take the top spot in the 200 free relay.

The Hawk’s men also won two out of three relays. The 200 medley team of Dalton, Mazier, Bloom and freshman Alexander Ray took first, while the 400 free relay team consisting of Bloom, Mazier, sophomore Andrew Woith and freshman Blaine King rallied to come from behind in an exciting finish to the meet.

The next meet for the Hawks will be at Berry College in Rome, Ga., on Nov. 16 and 17.
