Elder Leroy Jackson, Sr. was born to the late Minnie Armsterd and Elijah Daughtry on May 12, 1921 in Quincey, Fla.. He attended school in Quincey and later joined the US Army and served his country in World War II. He became employed for Southern Railroad and which he retired after 45 years. He also served as deacon, pastor and presiding elder for Church of God in Unity. He was later joined in marriage to Mother Florence Carter Jackson.
He leaves to mourn his devoted wife of 14 years, Mother Florence Carter Jackson. To this union came 15 children: Carolyn Miller of Jesup, Min. Dyane Bryant of Surrency, (Bob) Elaine Jackson of Jesup, Betty McNeal (deceased), Barbara (Benjamin) Moore of Douglas, Angela (Phillip) Morgan of Douglas, Bishop Leroy Jackson, Jr. of Jesup, Jerome (Connell) Jackson, Sr. of Jesup, Paul Randolph Jackson and Bobby Jackson of Surrency, Jim (Carolyn) Carter, Jr. Bruce (Coretta) Carter, Charles Carter, and Steve Carter, all of Douglas, Randall (Krystal) Carter of Jacksonville, Fla., and David Carter of Douglas; and a host of sorrowing grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held on Dec. 8, 2018, at Move of God Deliverance Center in Douglas. Interment followed at Surrency Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
