Drug unit, deputies stay busy during December

The Coffee County Drug Unit has made a number of arrests during the month of December. Most recently, officers arrested two people on methamphetamine, firearms, and other charges last week following a search at a local residence.

 

Around 9 p.m., Dec. 20, agents with the Coffee County Drug Unit conducted a search at a home in the Oak Park community. Quantities of methamphetamine, marijuana, cash, and a firearm were discovered.

 

As a result, Cameron Blake Spires was charged with possession of methamphetamine and probation violation. Leodis Weldon-Mobley was also arrested for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

 

Here are other arrests made during the month:

 

Dec. 4 – Around 3 p.m., the Coffee County Drug Unit, with assistance from the Nicholls Police Department, conducted a search at a residence on North Coffee Street in Nicholls. The search was a result of several complaints of numerous incidents involving drugs, firearms, assaults, and heavy foot traffic coming from the area.

 

During a search of the residence and property, quantities of cocaine and high grade marijuana were discovered hidden in vehicles and inside the home. Kenneth “Kenny” Jones was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and probation violation.

 

Dec. 5 – At approximately 12:50 p.m., the Coffee County Drug Unit assisted the Department of Community Services with a search of a residence. As a result, quantities of controlled substances and several firearms were discovered. John Ira Watts was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a drug related object, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

 

Dec. 7 – Around 1:30 p.m., Coffee County K9 Units conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the Oak Park community. During the stop it was discovered that the driver, identified as Michael Lee Wilson, had outstanding warrants. Wilson was arrested on his outstanding warrants of probation violation, criminal trespass, and a bench warrant for failure to appear.

Dec. 8 – At approximately 3:05 a.m., the Douglas Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for having no visible break lights. As the officer made contact with the driver, Jamie Thomas, the officer noticed Thomas attempting to conceal something between the seat and the console. They conducted a brief investigation and as a result, they discovered quantities of methamphetamine. A passenger in the vehicle, Lynn Kemp, was discovered to have drug paraphernalia in her possession. Thomas was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine, and Kemp was arrested charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

 

Dec. 9 – Around 10:30 p.m., the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation. The driver, identified as Christopher Dean, was found to have outstanding warrants for failure to appear. A search incident to arrest was conducted, and quantities of illicit prescription medications were discovered in Dean’s jacket. Dean was arrested on the outstanding warrant and additional charges of possession of a Schedule II controlled substance.

 

Dec. 13 – Coffee County K9 units conducted a traffic stop around 2 p.m. on a vehicle for window tint violation. During a brief investigation, consent was given by the driver to search the vehicle. During the search, quantities of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were discovered. The driver, Jessica Acorn Meyers, was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine.

 

Dec. 15 – At approximately 1:30 p.m., a Nicholls police officer responded to a call in reference to trespassing on private property. As the officer arrived at the residence to investigate, he noticed an unidentified white male attempting to hide. As the officer identified himself, the suspect fled on foot and a chase ensued. After a brief foot chase the suspect, identified as Alan Holton, was arrested for obstruction of a law enforcement officer. During a search incident to arrest, quantities of methamphetamine and marijuana were discovered. Holton was charged with obstruction of a law enforcement officer, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of marijuana – less than one ounce. The case was turned over to the Coffee County Drug Unit.

 

Dec. 18 – Coffee County K9 units were traveling north on Mahogany Road around 2 p.m. and noticed a male subject who had active warrants. The deputy made contact with the subject, identified as James Mitchell Chaucney, and took him into custody. Following a search incident to arrest, quantities of methamphetamine and marijuana were discovered. Chauncey was arrested for an outstanding probation warrant, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of marijuana – less than one ounce.
