South Georgia State College’s men’s basketball team honored its eight sophomores Saturday afternoon while also extending its current winning streak to four games with a 66-58 win over Southern Crescent Tech.

Those sophomores honored in a pregame ceremony included Skyler Baggs, Charles Botchway, Luke Lawson, Riley Meloncon, Keyshaun Street, Kamron Walters, Ellis Wester, Jr. and Dewayne Wilson. Each player received a plaque commemorating their individual careers at SGSC.

The Hawks (14-12-1, 6-6-1) had to overcome another lackluster shooting performance to keep their winning streak alive. As a team, the Hawks shot 38 percent from the field, made only two three-pointers (14 percent) and made 60 percent of their free throws.

SGSC’s defense proved to be the deciding factor again, similar to the most recent home game against Georgia Highlands. The Hawks held Southern Crescent Tech to 28 percent shooting, no three-point shots and forced 19 turnovers.

Botchway led the Hawks with 17 points and six rebounds. Baggs had another complete game of 15 points, 13 rebounds and four assists. Street and Will Ferguson each finished with 10 points.

The Hawks will host Albany Tech Wednesday night at 7 p.m. for the regular season home finale. General admission to all regular season home games is five dollars with children five and under admitted free.
