Colonel Robert Donald ‘Donnie’ O’Barr

Colonel Robert Donald “Donnie” O’Barr, age 68, of Valdosta, passed away on Sunday April 28, 2019 at his residence. Colonel O’Barr was in the United States Army National Guard where he was part of the 48th Infantry Brigade, serving for over thirty-three years.

 

Colonel O’Barr was born on April 1, 1951 in McRae, the son of the late Bill O’Barr and Sue Melvin O’Barr.

 

Survivors include his wife, Lisa O’Barr of Valdosta; daughter, Brittany Hughes and husband Aaron of Valdosta; brother, Mike O’Barr of Carrollton; two sisters, Faye Lovelace of Carrollton and Billie Sue Pittman of Savannah; awaiting future grandson, Aaron Michael Hughes II.

 

Funeral services will be held 11 am Thursday May 2, 2019 at Sims Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chris Caldwell and Pastor Brett Jarriel officiating. Interment with full military honors provided by the Ft. Stewart Honor Guard will follow at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 8819 Hwy 301, Glennville, Ga. The family will receive friends Thursday morning from 10 am until 11 am prior to the service.

 

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Sims Funeral Home for funeral expenses.  

 

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
