City needs volunteers on boards and committees

City needs volunteers on boards and committees

Do you want to help make a difference in the city of Douglas?  The City of Douglas is searching for motivated individuals, who want to make a difference in the community, to serve on several volunteer boards and committees.  

The City of Douglas is currently seeking volunteers to form the Utility Improvement Committee.  The purpose of the Utility Improvement Committee is to make recommendations to the City on matters involving utilities and to seek ways to improve relations between the city and Douglas Utilities customers. Volunteer applications must be submitted by Friday, December 6, 2019, 5pm.  

A volunteer is needed to fill a vacancy on the City of Douglas Airbase Preservation & Development Committee.  The purpose of the Airbase Preservation and Development Committee is to make recommendations to the City on matters involving the historic airbase located at Douglas Municipal Gene Chambers Airport. Volunteer applications must be submitted prior to December 23, 2019, 5pm.  

The Downtown Development Authority (D.D.A.) is currently seeking one volunteer to fill a vacancy on its board.  Anyone desiring to serve on D.D.A. must meet the following stipulations: the volunteer must be a taxpayer residing in the municipal corporation for which the authority is created; must be the owner or operator of a business located within the downtown development area and is a taxpayer residing in the county in which is located the municipal corporation for which the authority is created; or the volunteer must have a combination of the qualifications. For all qualifications, please contact the City Clerk’s office at 912-389-3405.  Volunteer applications must be submitted prior to December 23, 2019, 5pm.  

The City of Douglas is seeking a citizen who is willing to offer their time to serve on the Historic Preservation Committee.  The City Code stipulates that all members must reside in the City of Douglas and shall be persons who have demonstrated special interest, experience, or education in history, architecture or the preservation of historic resources.  Volunteer applications are being accepted through December 23, 2019, 5pm, at the City Clerk’s office.

The Zoning Board of Appeals has one vacancy on its board.  The individual must live within the city limits of Douglas.  The purpose of the Zoning and Board of Appeals is to make recommendations to the City and County on matters involving planning, zoning, subdivisions and other land use issues.  Volunteer applications can be placed through the City Clerk’s office at City Hall, 224 E. Bryan Street through December 9, 2019, 5pm.

The Ethics Committee is seeking three volunteers to fill vacancies on the Ethics Committee.  All individuals serving on the Ethics Committee, must live within the city limits of Douglas and one must be an attorney.  Volunteers interested in serving on the Ethics Committee, should contact the City Clerk’s office for more details and to submit a volunteer application.

The City of Douglas is seeking two volunteers to serve on the Library Board. Interested volunteers, should contact the City Clerk’s office to obtain volunteer expectations and applications.
