Inez Rowell Johnson was born on December 8, 1936 in Atkinson County. She was the daughter of the late Reverend Ruben Rowell and Annie Franklin Rowell. She attended public schools in Pearson, Georgia.  After graduating from high school, she met and was later joined in Holy Matrimony with the love of her life, the late Herbert Johnson, Sr. of Willacoochee, Georgia. To this union eight children were born.

Inez accepted Christ at an early age and joined St. James A.M.E. Church. After relocating to Willacoochee, she moved her membership to St. Paul A.M.E Church. Inez later joined Union Holiness Church where she was a faithful member and an ordained Minister. She served on various church boards and ministries where she took her responsibilities very serious. She modeled the scripture Psalms 84:10, “I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of My God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness”. Inez’s strength and faith has kept through the deaths of her loving husband and seven of her children. As a woman of God, she touched many lives with her intellect and courageousness. She had an unselfish spirit; she was a wonderful wife, phenomenal mother, sister, leader, friend, and an inspiration to all.

Inez leaves to cherish her memory, a loving daughter, Vickie R. Johnson of Charlotte, NC; two sisters, Mrs. Mattie Vickers and family of Atlanta and Mrs. Edith Mainor and family of Jacksonville, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Irma Shelia Johnson of Waycross, Herbert Clinton Johnson of  Brunswick, Treon Audaryl Johnson of Waycross, Mackenzie Allen Johnson (wife Illettia)of Charlotte, NC, Micah Aaron McKinkey of Estes Park, Co., LaToya Jackson of Alabama, Cory Jackson (wife Valencia) of Hyattsville, Md., and Cyrus Johnson of Redford, Mich.; nineteen great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. Additionally, she leaves a host of adoring nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and a supportive church family.

The funeral service will take place on Dec. 9, 2019, at noon at the chapel of McIver’s Funeral Home in Douglas. The family will receive friends on Dec. 8, 2019, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at McIver’s Funeral Home. The burial will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery in Pearson.
