Mary Catherine Smith, age 61, of Douglas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 26, 2019 at her residence. Mrs. Smith was born on November 13, 1958 in Sanford, Maine, the daughter of the late Joseph Pruett and the late Lorraine Farrell Pruett.

Mary was a retired decorated veteran for the United States Army as an LPN for 24 years. She was a retired instructor for Wiregrass Technical College. Mary truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures, sitting on the beach, playing pool and cards online. Her latest pleasure was spending as much time she could with her wonderful grandchildren. Mary never knew a stranger; she could make everyone laugh and you would be overwhelmed by her smile.

She is survived by her husband, Frank; three brothers, Tim (Jackie) Godfrey, Mike Pruett and Norman (Angie) Smith; one sister, Joanne Stiner; three sons, Kris (Delama) Schlager, Corey Smith and Derek Smith; three daughters, Lisa (Jay) Podguski-Campbell, Leighanne (Mickey) Thomas and Laura Stalvey; many nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

Family, friends and others whose lives Mary has touched are invited to the Sims Funeral Home on Saturday, December 28, 2019 from 6pm until 9pm to reminisce, grieve, support each other and of course, just chat.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, December 29, 2019 at 2:00pm from the Chapel of Sims Funeral Home with Rev. George Bennett officiating. Interment will follow at Douglas City Cemetery.

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
