SGSC adjusts summer semester fees for online courses

Now is a good time for students to get started or move ahead as summer semester 2020 will be completely online for South Georgia State College. Following the guidance of the University System of Georgia, SGSC will adjust fees for summer courses reflecting the recent shift to online delivery. Students will only be charged two mandatory fees: the institutional fee and the technology fee.

Students registered for summer 2020 online courses will notice tuition rates will reflect the same rate as face-to-face delivery costs. Tuition rates apply to online classes offered by SGSC, not to eCore courses offered through the University System of Georgia.

This comes after the USG Board of Regents voted Tuesday, April 14, to approve a recommendation of no tuition increase for the 2020-2021 academic year. Students at all 26 USG institutions will pay the same tuition rates for the 2020-2021 academic year as they do now for the current 2019-2020 academic year.

The University System limited tuition increases among USG institutions to an average 0.9 percent annually for the past five years, well below the rate of inflation. This is the third time in five years there has been no tuition increase across the University System.

No increase in tuition also allows USG to continue to offer some of the lowest tuition rates among peer public higher education systems. Out of the 16 states that make up the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB), USG has the fourth lowest in-state tuition and fees for undergraduates at four-year institutions.

Registration for summer and fall classes is currently underway. For information on admissions or registration, submit a ticket to SGSC Hawk Helper at http://talon.sgsc.edu/help/. Online summer classes will begin June 8. Fall semester is slated to begin on August 17.
