South Georgia State College President Dr. Ingrid Thompson-Sellers anticipates resuming on-campus operations this fall, along with other schools in the University System of Georgia. The SGSC regular semester is currently scheduled to begin on August 17, 2020. These plans could change, as guidance from public health officials monitoring COVID-19 continues to evolve.

“Please be mindful this situation remains a fluid one. With many factors still unknown, the USG continually monitors developments and receives guidance from state public health officials,” said Dr. Thompson-Sellers. “The safety and well-being of our students and college community are our top priority. Our fall semester may look different and things may change, even after we have made plans. We ask that you join us in remaining flexible and patient as we move forward during this unprecedented time.”

In preparation for resuming in-person instruction, policies and procedures are being developed for implementation across each campus, including expanded health and safety protocols. Specific details will be developed in the coming weeks as SGSC completes a review of current public health and USG guidelines.

SGSC’s academic leaders are working with faculty to prepare to transition to an on-campus fall semester, as well as considering other course delivery formats should the need arise as the situation evolves. Classes transitioned to online for the remainder of Spring semester and online instruction is planned for summer courses as well.

“Our faculty has gone above and beyond to move course sections online in a short period of time. They have shown their resiliency and steadfastness to ensure that high quality and meaningful learning experiences continue to take place at SGSC,” expressed Dr. Thompson-Sellers. “Our staff has supported the faculty and the students in every way possible and has proven they are highly adaptable with the student’s best interests at heart. I am exceedingly proud of their ongoing efforts.”

Public health guidelines will determine future plans and policies for community and student events, athletic activities and housing policies. All will be implemented in accordance with health guidance and will be communicated in a timely manner.

SGSC will soon deploy plans for faculty and staff to begin returning to campuses based on forthcoming guidance from health officials and the University System of Georgia.

Prospective students are encouraged to visit www.sgsc.edu for information about admissions, associate and bachelor degree programs, scholarships and financial aid opportunities. Admitted students should check their SGSC student email about orientation sessions and other upcoming opportunities and deadlines.

Additional information will be posted at http://www.sgsc.edu/alert.cms as it becomes available. All individuals on SGSC campuses will be expected to comply with procedures and protocols for the health and safety of all.
